Chreshull Rucker, 34, was arrested on Sunday, May 12, the Atlantic City Police Department said in a news release on Tuesday, May 14. Officers responded to the 1500 block of Atlantic Avenue at around 9:06 a.m. and a person said their vehicle was stolen when they left it running while going into a store.
Police found Rucker driving the stolen vehicle but he sped away when an officer tried to stop him. Rucker then crashed into a vehicle when he ran a red light at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Atlantic avenues.
The stolen vehicle also hit several objects off the road, including a fence and a sign. Rucker ran away from the crash scene but was caught by police and held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Officers found a loaded gun and pocket knife in the stolen vehicle. The people in the other vehicle involved in the crash were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive their injuries.
During the crash investigation, police also responded to a man who was stabbed on South Kentucky Avenue. The 36-year-old was brought to the hospital and police said his injuries were "sustained a period of time prior" to the officers' arrival.
Investigators identified Rucker as the suspect in the stabbing. He received additional charges on Monday, May 13.
Rucker was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, theft, eluding, and two counts of assault by auto.
Rucker was also arrested in a separate case on Friday, March 20, 2018. He was accused of shooting at another person who wasn't injured.
